'Levo' is a prefix obtained from a Latin word 'laevus', which means to pertain to the left side. The word that has the opposite meaning is 'dextro' which is obtained from the Latin word 'dexter' meaning something pertaining to the right side.

Levo is used as a prefix in many words to denote the left side. For example, 'levoratory' means that which is to the left of something. it is generally added to the beginning of the word to indicate the counter clockwise direction. It is used with several words to make new ones. For example, in a person who has levocardia, the activation of the heart starts on the right side, going towards the left and downwards.

Another example; Levorotation, is used to denote rotation that is anticlockwise, mostly used to describe plane polarized light.
