Something that is impure refers to something that is not pure or clean. It may refer to something that has been infected or contaminated with unfavourable elements.

In a religious context, impure refers to something or someone that has not been purified through the means of a religious ritual or practice like a bar mitzvah, for example.

Impure is a commonly used term by religious authorities to describe those who are immoral or those who indulge in sinful activities. Those who are unchaste and unclean in thoughts and deeds may be called as impure. People of a profane character can be called as impure people.

A commodity may be termed impure if it is adulterated with other substances which are generally inferior in nature. Compromising on the quality of a substance by combining it with an inferior element is making the substance impure.
