A diadem means an ornamental headband (or crown) that was worn by kings as a mark of royalty and later came to be synonymous with crown.

Diadem is derived from the old English word diademe or from the Greek diadein which means to bind around.

The Diadem does not have to be a complete band but can also be in the shape of a tiara and be ornamented with jewels.

Usage could be as a noun – Miss World looked regal with the crystal diadem on her head, or as a verb – To diadem the victor.

Other usages of diadem are: Diadem is the name of the brightest star that shines in the Coma Berenices constellation. Diadem is also the name given to tropical butterflies of the Hypolimnas genus. Apart from the above Diadem has been used as titles for a series of books, as a user interface for a database, a name for a British cruiser and for analyzing and reporting software
