Bashing is a term used for complete defeat that is given to somebody. Basically the term describes that somebody is being beaten so hard that he would not be able to raise himself further.

You can find this term in everyday use in newspapers and magazines. In sports pages the term described a kind of game in which one team has completely thrashed another one. If the English Cricket team defeats the Australians in the Ashes series with a 5-0 margin you can say that the English have given a good bashing to the Australians.

The term can be used figuratively also like if we are criticising a nation or a community heavily we can use the term with the descriptive word and make a compound word. Examples of this kind of use are China-bashing and feminist-bashing.
