Blunt means something which is not sharp. If the edge or end of a particular object is dull, then it is often described as "blunt". Blunt can also refer to a person who is direct and undiplomatic. Such a person believes in calling a spade "a spade." He is frank, outspoken and believes in talking straight to the point.

A person who is insensitive or slow in comprehending things can also be referred to as blunt. As a verb "to blunt" means to make something or someone less sensitive or less lively. Words like candid, forthright, outspoken are the synonyms of the word blunt in the adjective form. In the verb form, the most common synonyms are benumb, dull and deaden. The word "blunt" was used in the English literature before the first quarter of the 14th century. Incidentally Blunt is also the name of a city situated in Hughes County, South Dakota.
