In different types of religions, sacred as well as holy, objects, places or thoughts are understood by followers to be closely connected with God or a religion and hence are very much respected.

Like certain pagans believe the Earth to be sacred, where as the Roman Catholics believe the transubstantiated host sacred. Reverence on the whole is profound admiration and adoration for a particular place or individual considered to have sacred or dignified character.

Analogously, the term sacred is even applied for items which are extremely esteemed by worldly organizations or individuals, like for example and individual from America may believe the Stars and Stripes to be sacred. Nearly all the religions also have religious texts which are thought to be sacred. Quite a few religions assume that their sacred texts are completely heavenly or are spiritually inspired in origin.
