The word pyrrhic has its origin Greek language. It is taken from the word purrikhios which was taken from purrikhe. Purrikhe was a war dance and is supposed to be invented by Purrikhos. Pyrrhic is a metrical foot used in poetries. A meter shows the linguistic patterns of sound in verse. The poetic foot is also known as prosody. This used in a meter to being out the rhythm in a poem. A foot is made up of specific number of syllables that make up the line of a verse.

A foot is distinguished by the number of syllables in it and also the character of the syllable. The syllables are either accented or unaccented (English usage) and are characterized as a combination of these two types. A metric foot is a combination of two unaccented syllables or short syllables (Latin or Greek usage).
