Monochrome is a word which has been derived from Greek. It has been derived with the combination of two Greek words. The former part that is mono means single or one and the latter comes from chroma which means either the surface or the colour of the skin. An object which is monochromatic has only one colour.

Monochromatic colours are the shades and tints of a single colour. Monochromatic colours tender very slight contrast and might be measured boring if there is no multiplicity within the pattern. In computing, monochromes have two connotations. The first one is that it may have only a single colour which may either be on or off. The second meaning implies permitting the shades of a particular colour.
