Drongo is a slang term. In Australia, it is used to describe a person who is considered to be foolish or stupid or a simpleton. Addled, bird-brained, bone-headed, bovine, brainless, clueless, cretinous, dim, doltish, dopey, drippy, feeble-minded, moronic, naïve or hare-brained could also mean drongo. A bird is also named drongo. Drongo is a shiny bird that is found in Northern and eastern Austrlia and in India and China. It is called drongo because it belong to the same family of drongos in northern Madagascar. This bird is not stupid. It is consideredt hat the bird migrates to the colder regions in winter and this trait of stupidity is associated with the term drongo.

The true story of the association of the term stupidity to term drongo goes back to the early 1920s. Drongo was an Australian race horse who came close to winning many races but never won any.
