The term Creep is used to describe the propensity of a matter to move or to deform permanently to relieve stresses. This deformation takes place due to long term exposure to the level of stress. Creep is actually a mode of mechanical failure. Creep actually affects materials that are exposed to heats for a longer period of time.

There are various stages of Creep. In the beginning the rate of the strain slows down as the strain increases. This phase is known as primary creep. Once the level of the strain reaches bare minimum the object becomes near constant, this phase is called steady state creep. Creep does not actually stand for a failure mode but more like a damage mechanism.
