Crease is the term that is used in the sport of cricket. The area that has been marked with white lines or painted with chalk on the pitch is known as the crease. The term crease also refers to the lines, but only to the line that is nearest to the wicket, that is the back line. There are a total of four creases which includes: one bowling crease, one popping crease and two return creases. These creases are generally drawn at both the ends of the pitch near the set of stumps.

If the batsman is found to be outside the boundaries of the crease he can be stumped by the wicket keeper and thus loose his wicket. The same rule is applied while running for a 'run'. For the run to be counted the batsmen has to be in the safe zone of the crease.
