Censorship is the act of censoring. It is a method used by the officials of the information and broadcasting department or ministry of the government to achieve counterintelligence. This is done by banning or deleting any type of information which could prove valuable to the enemy of the state.

Censorship is a systematic use of power by a group to control the freedom of speech and expression. These are fundamental rights of the citizens of a country. To censor is to delete parts of publications, correspondence, plays, films, books, articles and any other content which is written before it is given an all-clear certificate by the censor board. It is only after the official consent issued by the censor board that the content or information can be disseminated to the people at whom it is targeted.

Objectionable content is censored. Explicit references to sexuality, violence, racism, etc. come under the purview of objectionable content. This objectionable matter can be disturbing to some sections of the society.

People must observe some limits to free speech, of course such as prohibitions of obscenely over the public air wares and dealing in child pornography. for instance, a large selection blocking software on the market allows users to block from view materials on the internet that are objectionable to them or to family members. Blocking software packages work in a variety of ways. Some ISPs automatically censor portions of the internet with their own software. Some also provide tools that let each user do his or her own blocking. Users can also acquire blocking software on their own, independently of their provider. The software may suggest a list of subjects or keywords that will automatically prevent access to a site; typically you can trim or add to this list. For instance, parents could block their home computer from displaying information on sex, drugs, bomb making if any of those topics were not already censored by their service provider. Many of the latest browsers also allow users to block access in one way or another. Despite the failure so far of the Communications Decency Act, the censorship battle surrounding the internet continues to rage. Blocking software is a program that blocks access to certain parts of the internet deemed objectionable based on predetermined criteria.

Censorship is the act of controlling and restricting the flow of information and ideas. Usually it is practiced under the guise of protecting and upholding the family, religion and the state. Thus it curtailing and suppressing ideas and opinions or information that some people find objectionable and dangerous. It can be imposed by the government or by private pressure group. Censorship can also be self imposed. The censorship implemented by the government is unconstitutional. It is carried out through forms of mass media like books, TV, radio, Internet and so on in the 20th century.

There are five types of censorship and they are moral censorship, military censorship, political censorship, religious censorship and corporate censorship. It is generally implemented during war time and during the rule of a dictator in a country or a province. It often violates human rights. It is done under the garb of eliminating obscenity, sedition and treason.
