Bastion describes someone's fiefdom where the rule of the concerned person prevails. Largely the meaning it conveys is a kind of fortification that is a pentagonal one and fortifies a particular area. But the figurative meaning of the term is what makes it used so often.

One can use the term when you are describing about an area of interest where you feel that you are better than every one around you; you can say that its your bastion and whatever needs to be said should be said by you. The term basically used when you are to say things with some force and you can make an assertive statement using the word bastion; 'no body can interfere in my bastion and if he does be ready for the jolt he will receive'.

The word bastion generally means a fortified place. A bastion basically is a construction projecting towards the outer side from the chief area. It is located in both corners of a straight wall.

It usually has a pointed shape, making a vigorous defence against attacking troops. It offers the defenders of the fort to cover the neighbouring strongholds and curtains with defensive fire. The bastion was fashioned in such a manner to present a full range on which to assault approaching troops.

The bastion resolved this difficulty, by means of cannons to cover the draped side of the wall so that the front cannons could concentrate on approaching targets. Over the period of year many bastions have been used like Solid bastions, Void or hollow bastions, a flat bastion, a cut bastion, a composed bastion, etc.
