A prison in Paris, France is known to the world with the name of Bastille. The world knows this building because of the historical significance it has; it was at this building from where the French Revolution started and changed the political scenario not only of France but to some extent of the whole Europe.

The building was built in the late fourteenth century and was meant to be apart of the defense mechanism of the city of Paris. But later, in the seventeenth century, the building was turned into a prison. It was meant to be a place for political prisoners only, but it took into itself religious prisoners and some seditious writers also.

The building got a bad reputation fore itself when it turned into a prison for those who were taken under lettre de cachet, a direct order from the king.
