Azimuth refers to the horizontal part of the direction measured from the north towards the east. It is measured in clockwise direction in the form of degrees. Sometimes the southern point can also be used as a reference point. In the field of geology, the angle of horizontal deviation measured in terms of degrees from a standard point of direction is called azimuth. The term finds its application in the field of science, mining and energy.

In space navigation, the location of a celestial body is known by its azimuth and the elevation about the horizon. In aviation, the azimuth is used to determine the direction the flight has to take course. In radio astronomy, the azimuth pertains to the direction an antenna must be stationed to obtain the satellite signal.
