The term pique as a noun refers to a state of vexation, which is brought on by a perceived indignity or slight. In this sense of the term it is generally used to mean a feeling of wounded ego or pride.

As a transitive word it means causing to feel indignation or resentment. It could also mean to provoke; arouse; as in 'His charm piqued her interest'. It may also be used to mean to pride (oneself). In this sense it is a French term, meaning a prick, irritation, it comes from the Old French, from the term piquer, meaning to prick; it comes from the Vulgar Latin term *piccre, eventually of imitative origin.

Piqué is also a noun which refers to a fabric that is tightly woven with various raised patterns, which is produced in particular by a double warp.
