Terra was a Goddess. Commonly known as Terra Mater, she was personified as the goddess of the Earth in the Roman Mythology. The other name for Terra Mater is Tellus Mater. Both these names mean the same i.e. Mother Earth. Mater in Latin, is a honorific title that is also bestowed on the other4 Goddesses. There are some linguists who are studying the Indo-European languages. These linguists believe that Tellus or Terra Mater was derivative from tersa tellus which meant Dry land. But if this reference falls true, the earlier meaning is considered to have been true before this meaning emerged. In the Oxford Dictionary, Terra refers to the element Earth.
