The word negligence is obtained from the word 'neglect' and is the noun form of neglect. Neglect has its origin in Latin. It is taken from the word neglegere. This word neglegere is formed from two parts: neg and legere. The first part neg means 'not' and the second part '-legere' means 'to choose or pick up'. When someone does not pay heed to something, he is said to be negligent. This quality of being lax or negligent is termed negligence. Failure to act because of over sightedness is negligence. For example: not paying your bills on time is sheer negligence.

In legal terms, failure to provide the required or necessary care under varied circumstances is called negligence. Such lack of attention leads to an injury to another party, though the injury is unintended.
