The word 'inept' means something or someone who lacks the necessary skill or aptitude for a certain function or project. For example, "she is inept at dealing with mechanical devices of any kind" or "he is inept at socially interacting with people".

It refers to someone who is typically awkward or hopelessly ineffectual when it comes to certain tasks. The term is characterised by inelegance in doing something, something which is unseemly. For example "he was inept at his attempt to dance, he has two left feet".

It could also refer to someone or something which is not appropriate, completely out of place in a given situation. The word inept can also be used to describe something which is stupid or foolish, for example, "that was a completely inept remark".
