Oahu is an island of central Hawaii. It is the chief island of the state. It lies between Molokai and Kauai islands. Oahu is also the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It is the most populated island in Hawaii and 75% of Hawaii's population calls Oahu home. It means the "Gathering Place". It is a volcanic island and has a total land area of 596.66 km². This island was formed as a result of two separate shield volcanoes named Wai'anae and Ko'alau.

It is named after the son of a Polynesian navigator's son as the navigator was responsible for the discovery of Hawaiian Islands. It is also the state capital and a main deep-water marine port for the state of Hawaii.
