Milling refers to the activity or procedure of grinding something, mainly the action of grinding grain into the form of flour. It is basically the mechanism of grinding of wheat or other types of grain to make flour that is to be used in cooking. Milling the grain helps to segregate the fine, powdery parts of the grain from the stringy bran outer cover. In ancient times, grain was ground by placing it in the middle of two flat rocks or stones and pressing them together.
It may also be referred to as an entire process of cutting, giving shape and finish etc to a product that is generated in a mill. It also refers to the grooves made on the rims of coins that are milled.
