The term luscus has a Latin origin and means 'blind in one eye'. This was adapted from the Old French word Losche. Losche means 'squinted eye'. This 'luscus' is used as name of a mammal, Gulo luscus. Gulo luscus is a mammal belonging to the family of carcajou, skunk bear and wolverine. This animal is found in North America. It is shaggy and stocky and is carnivorous in nature.

There is another species named Trisopterus luscus. It is a species of fish generally known as Bib fish or Pouting Fish. This scientific name was given by Linnaeus in 1758. this fish is also known as whiting or pout fish. Trisopterus luscus was classified under the family Gadidae (cod family), order Gadiformes, class Actinopterygii and phylum Chordata of Animal Kingdom. Its population skirts the European coast.
