Hypothetical means "relating to a hypothesis." The synonyms of the word "hypothetical" are uncertain, theoretical, imaginary, supposed, conditional etc. The word originates from the Greek word "hypothetikos." A hypothetical situation is often an imagined, a theoretical or an unrealistic one. Here is an example of the word in a sentence: In a hypothetical situation, a condition like this would not arise.

Hypothesis means an assumption of the fact. It is just an assumption at best. The possibility or the assumption becomes a fact only when it is tested for the veracity of its claim.

Only through tests, observation and conclusion, when the "supposed claim" or "theoretical view" is acknowledged as true for practical usage and complies with logical reasoning, the matter changes from hypothetical to factual.
