The word liverish is an adjective used for something pertinent to liver but the word doesn't confine itself to the literal meaning but has a figurative derivation also.

Anything that resembles liver, and especially in terms of colour, can be referred to as liverish and also a liver disorder can be referred to as such. But the figurative meaning you can derive form the word is disagreeable or melancholy and it is this meaning that made people use the word so often. The following sentence can make the meaning of the word very clear in this context: The person is known to have a liverish disposition and it is this nature of him that makes everybody avoids his company. The sentence says that the person always looks sad and very few people like the company of a melancholy person they avoid him.
