An emissary is a person who is sent on a particular mission. He can also be called an agent. He usually represents the interests of somebody else than his own. It is a noun. It is term that can be used for a spy or somebody who has been sent to gather information and create dissatisfaction among the members of the opposite team. He is an envoy or a person sent on an errand. Thus he is a messenger also. It is pronounced as em-uh-ser-ee.

It has a medical meaning too. In medical terms it indicates the anatomy. It refers to the sending or coming out of certain veins that pass through the skull that connect the venous sinuses of the dura matter with veins external of the skull.
