The word "condyloid" refers to something that is either shaped like a condyle or is in some way pertaining to it. Condyle is a word that is used when reefing to a rounded projection that is a rounded articular area. It is one of the features of bones.

In medicine the word condyloid joint is a type of joint in the bone structure and can be found in the human wrist. These joints do not allow axial rotation but do permit extension, flexion, circumduction, and adduction and abduction type of movement.

Behind either the lateral parts or the condyle of the occipital bone lies a depression. This is known as the condyloid fossa or the condylar fossa. In the same vicinity can also be found the condyloid canal through which the emissary vein can be seen passing.
