Fibrous can be defined as resembling, containing or having fibres. It is the adjective version of the noun fibre. A fibre can be defined as those materials that have filaments which resembles long strips of thread. They are of great importance in the bodies of animals and plants. Usually they hold tissues together. Fibres are divide into two broad categories- natural and man made. Natural fibres include vegetable, animal and mineral fibres while man made fibres include synthetic fibres among others.

Fibrous tissue is the tissue found in both plants and animals which contains fibres. Fibrous roots is the root system in which a plant will have several thin roots Fibrous dysphasia is a medical term referring to the growth of thick fibrous tissue in a single bone replacing the normal bone tissue. Its symptoms include a bone fracture or pain, deformity of limbs and disability. In general people with this condition are diagnosed in early adulthood.
