A fugitive is someone who runs away or flees, mostly from the hands of the law. One who runs to escape imprisonment or confinement is called as a fugitive. He or she is basically running from custody, it may be from a government or non-government organisation, even from individuals who have a reason to be outraged.

Those people who have fled their country in order to escape arrest are trans-border fugitives.

That which lasts only for a short period of time can also be described as fugitive. For example, "he only possesses a fugitive interest in politics".

Something that is difficult to keep or retain, is also called as fugitive. Something that is not there for long, that which is liable to perish.

A fugitive can also be informally described a s a person who is a wanderer or a type of nomad.
