The word desolation is defined as devastation. It is the state of being decayed or destroyed. The word also means bleakness, as in a bleak and desolate atmosphere. A desolate look is also called a forlorn look. It is the sad look on the face of a person, especially one who has been forsaken or abandoned. The word desolation is used to describe an event that results in the total destruction.

Desolation Angels is the title of a novel written by author Jack Kerouac in the year 1965. It is also the name of an album released in the year 1979. The album is by Bad Company, a rock band from the United Kingdom.

The Desolation Wilderness is a popular location for backpacking. It is located to the west of Lake Tahoe and along the crest of the Sierra Nevada range of mountains. Much of the terrain of the Desolation Wilderness is rocky and barren.

The term desolation means the state of being desolated or sorrow, grief, woe. Desolation was also the name of an album released by progressive rock band Amphoteric.

Even thought the album was received critical acclaim and the band went on receive cult following, it got very less commercial success and is their only album which has original lineup. The band Amphoteric consist of the lead singer cum guitarist Hart Hancock, bassist Bryan Blair and drummer Craig Brown. The band was started in the year 1996 by vocalist cum guitarist Tim Thompson and fellow guitarist Andrew Nielsen.

They were followed by bassist Nick West and drummer Dan Ellis. In just few months of coming together the band was signed up by the Noseman Records in the US. The bands initial album was released in the year 1998 and was know as desolation.
