Botticelli is an Italian word used as a last name and means either "little barrel", "round barrel", or "little round barrel". It is perhaps best known as either the surname of Sandro Botticelli or as a common guessing game. In Italy the word is used as a name for several establishments including restaurants, pubs, coffee shops etc.

Sandro Botticelli whose actual name was Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi was who made the name Botticelli famous and is best remembered for his painting "Birth of Venus". This artist in the time of the renaissance, at least the early part of it was extremely pious and even burnt his own paintings on pagan themes.

The word game Botticelli derives its name from the above artist. The game has people guessing the name of a person one of the players has thought of. The person must be as well known as Sandro Botticelli and thus the name of the game.
