The meaning of the word Abyss is deep or immeasurable space. There is also a region with the similar name it is known as the Abyssal zone. It is basically a pelagic zone which comprises of deep benthic communities which are situated near the bottom of the ocean.

It has a total depth of around 2,000 to 6,000 meters; this zone is always in continuous darkness and never receives daylight. You will commonly find the Black Swallower, tripod fish, deep-sea anglerfish and the giant squid in this zone.

These creatures are able to survive the enormous pressure of the ocean depths, up to seven hundred seventy five kilograms per square centimetre. The area which is beneath the abyssal zone is the hadal zone and hardly any living creatures live there.
