In Italian, the word for orange- as in the colour between yellow and red that is visible in the light spectrum by a human eye- is arancione. This is pronounced as [aran-cho-ney].

The word derives from the fruit which we also call 'orange' in English, and which translates to arancia (pronounced ar-an-cha). To further complicate matters, the tree from which oranges grow takes the masculine form in Italian and is known as arancio.

Interestingly, before the discovery of oranges, Italians (much like other nationalities including the English) did not have a word in their language for orange. This is the reason that Italian has words like pesci rossi or 'red-fish' (meaning goldfish), and the expression capelli rossi refers to 'red hair' in much the same way English does.
