Entity is defined as something that exists. It is something that is something that is inferred or known. It is something which may be animate or inanimate which has a separate and distinct existence. However an entity may not necessarily be something which has a tangible material existence. It is regarded as a thing of existence or significance and may be conceptual or real. For example even legal fictions and abstractions are regarded as entities.
Additionally an entity is often considered to be a set which contains several subsets. In Philosophy for example such entities are considered abstract objects. In legal jargon an entity is anything able to bear legal obligations and rights. Such a person will therefore be a 'legal entity'.
The term entity is also associated with beings, objects, individuals, people, polity and resources.
