An enlisted army man or woman is the one who has a military rank that is lower than that of a commissioned officer or a warrant officer. Soldiers in the armed forces that do not hold Officers Commissions are enlisted. Non Commissioned Officers (NCO) may also be included in the group of enlisted rank. Other than NCOs, it includes privates, veterans as well as recruits.
To explain very precisely, enlisted applies only to the lowest ranks of the military service. Though it is the lowest rank, it is the most important, because these soldiers form the core of the working force.
The enlisted soldiers have to remain in the military force and may not resign unless any one of the three situations arises:
• Their enlistment term is completed.
• They can no longer fulfil the duties performed by a soldier.
• The government does not require their services any more.
