Rode is an anchor rope or chain. It is a line that is securely attached to the boat or vessel. The length of the anchor rode is called its scope.

Rode is also the name of quaint village in Somerset, England. It is approximately five miles from Trowbridge. This relatively obscure village became a household name back in the nineteenth century when it became the scene of a gruesome murder. Rode has all the facilities of a modern village- a school, post office, and a cricket club. In addition Rode Residents can unwind with a drink, in one of the many good pubs located in the area like the Mill Pub (which used to be a real mill), The Bell and the Cross Keys.

There is also a Christian saint called St Lawrence Rode.
