The word roont has its roots in Old French. The word roont means round or spherical, circular, globose or annular. It refers to a small circle. Roont is modified as Rondel or ronde in French. The feminine term for roont is roonde.

This term roont is also used by Stephen King in his novel, The Dark Tower (series of books). The term 'roont' is used to indicate individuals who were taken away by the wolves. These individuals are shown to be taken to the Thunderclap and a portion of their brain was removed. The roont children were mentally handicapped, grew into giants and died young in the novel. Here, the author has used this term just to imply a ruined state or simply 'ruined'.
