Phoebus is the Latin form of Greek Phoibus which means 'Shining-one' in literal terms. He is known as Phivos in the modern spelling of Greek language. He was paired with Athena, the goddess of civilization, wisdom, crafts and the noble side of war when Phoebus was the mascot of the 2004 Olympics held in Athens.
