The word lyceum has its origin in Greek language. It is derived from the word 'lukeion'. Lukeion was a school on the border of Athens. Later, this word 'lukeion' was adapted by Latin as Lycēum. Lyceum is a noun and denotes a room or hall. This hall could be used to present programs, to organize public lectures and concerts. Lyceum could also mean an organization that sponsors public programs or entertainment related programs. Lyceum is also known as lycée.
