Mohican is the name of a Native American tribe. A member of this tribe is also known as Mohican. They are also at times known as The Mahicans. This tribe lived around the Hudson Valley in America but layer moved on to northeastern Wisconsin, US. This tribe is often confused and mistaken with another tribe named as Mohegan.
The Mohican tribe came into contact for the first time with the Europeans during the early 17th century. Many members of this tribe also settled down in the town of Stockbridge and since then they are known as Stockbridge Indians. Many of them converted to Christianity during the 18th century due to the advent of the missionaries. Their language also known as the Mohican language has become almost extinct but it belonged to the Algonquian language family. A famous novel has been written on this tribe by James Moore. This novel is titled as The Last of the Mohicans.
