Metamorphic is a term derived from metamorphosis. It is the adjective form of metamorphosis. Thus it means to be characterized by metamorphosis. It is a word used to express any thing related to the process of metamorphosis. Metamorphosis means changing and transfer, thus metamorphic means dynamic and changing. It is the opposite of static.

Metamorphic is term which is frequently used to describe a type of rock. Metamorphic rock is formed as a result of a process called as metamorphism which means change in form. It is about the changes that occur in already existing rocks named protolith when it is subjected to heat and extreme pressure. Metamorphic rocks form a great part of Earth's crust. The study of these rocks help in providing valuable information about the temperature and pressures under the earth's crust.
