Pathological means related to or caused by disease, so non-pathological means not caused by disease. In terms of skeletal traits for example, scurvy causes unusual bone growth in areas of soft tissue haemorrhaging, and so this bone growth could be referred to as pathological. However skeletal traits caused by habitual activity, such as unusual bone growth in areas of muscle attachment due to strain and high muscle usage in life could be referred to as non-pathological since they were not caused by disease
