The word Ladera comes from the Spanish word "Ladera" meaning a slope or a hillside.

Ladera heights is a residential neighbourhood in south west Los Angeles in the state of California, United States. The area has a population is a little over six and a half thousand and most of these are African Americans. The area is unique because it is affluent and this puts it in stark contrast with the other traditional black areas of the County which are mostly poverty stricken. The area is considered very desirable due to its proximity to the airport and the views that it offers of the Pacific Ocean.

There is also a residential community in Orange County, California that is called Ladera Ranch. The community is of note due to various traffic features in place that are not found in other ones such as roundabouts, chokers, narrow street widths etc.
