The term inevitable is an adjective which means impossible to either avoid or prevent. It could be used to mean predictable or 'invariably occurring or appearing'; as in 'old age is inevitable'.

The term is often intertwined with the concepts of fate and destiny in the sense of an event or even a course of events which will inevitably take place in the future. The noun form of the word inevitable is the term inevitability or inevitableness while the term inevitably is the adverb form of the same. Some antonyms for the word inevitable include the terms avertable, avertible, evitable and avoidable.

In Dungeons & Dragons, which is a role-playing game, extraplanar magical constructs are called inevitables. Some of the main inevitables include Zelekhut, Kolyarut, Marut, Varakhut, Quarut and Waste Crawler (Anhydrut).
