An impression is an effect or an image that is retained as a result of one's experience. It may also mean something that is a hazy idea or notion, a vague remembrance of something. For example, 'I have the impression that I have seen you somewhere".

An impression, in another context, refers to a physical mark produced on the surface of an object by applying pressure on it. Impression also refers to the act of impressing or having a favourable impact on someone.

In printing jargon, impression refers to all of the copies of a publication that are printed at one go from the same set of type. A lone copy of such a set is also called as an impression.

An impression is also used to describe a funny or humorous reproduction or imitation of the vocal and behavioural mannerisms of people, mostly famous people, usually performed by comedians.
