The term 'hispanic' means describes someone relating to Spain or Latin America. Hispanic relates to the people and culture if Spain. This word is taken from the Latin word Hipanus. This word Hispanus was in turn taken from the word Hispania. Later, it was adapted by the Spanish as Hispano and it derived its current form 'Hispanic'. The word Hispanic uses the same style as Anglo which connotes something of English origin or from England. This word Hispanic could be combined with other words. For example, the word Hispanoamerica means 'Spanish America'.

The word Hispanic as noun is used to denote a person who speaks Spanish. Hispanic could also mean a citizen of United States who belongs to Spanish-speaking Latin America or has a Spanish descent. Sometimes the words Latino and Hispanic are used interchangeably. But, they are not identical.
