DOR has two meanings. The first meaning is DOR is a large mountain located on Israel's Mediterranean coast.

The other meaning of DOR is that DOR is known as Dora to the Greeks and Romans. It means a prehistoric imperial city of the Canaanites whose ruler was the king of Hazor against Joshua. In the 1100's the town had been taken by the Tjekker and was ruled in any case as late as the 1000's BCE. It appears to have been controlled by the land of the tribe of Asher, however fixed to Manasseh. It has been positioned in the ninth mile from Caesarea, on the way to Ptolmais. When the Greeks came to the city, and learned in relation to the name DOR, they approved the name Dora.
