The term polysyllabic means consisting of several, mainly of four or more, syllables. A syllable basically is a component of association for a series of speech sounds. It is characteristically made up of a syllable nucleus with non-compulsory preliminary and concluding margins.

Syllables are frequently thought to be the phonological "building blocks" or words. They can control the tempo of a language, its prosody, its poetic meter as well as its pressure patterns. An expression which comprises of a sole syllable is known as a monosyllable, where as an expression comprising of two syllables is known as a disyllable.

A term comprising of three syllables is known as a trisyllable and a term comprising of more than four syllables is known as a polysyllable.
