Gradient refers to a slope or to the rate or degree of inclination. It also refers to a descending or ascending part or an incline. Gradient is also a concept found in physics where it refers to the rate at which any physical quantity such as pressure or temperature decrease or increase relative to changes in some other given variable namely distance etc.

In Mathematics it means a vector that has coordinated components which with respect to its variables are partial derivatives of a function.

In biology gradient refers to a series of differences that are increasing or decreasing progressively with reference to the growth rate, physiological activity or metabolism of a organ, cell or organism.
