Evangelical as a noun connotes a person who is a member of an evangelical Christian Church. Evangelical Christians and beliefs give emphasis to a personal relationship with God. Evangelical Christian church believes in the sole authority of Bible and holds that regeneration is the only way to salvation. They also emphasize the importance of Bible and call attention of the people to these beliefs. This word evangelical is applied to anything that is related to the Christian gospel, especially any one of the four books of the New Testament.

One who is eager to talk about his ideas and way of life and intends to persuade people to agree to them is also considered to be evangelical. For example: Jamie is very evangelical about exercising everyday. Here, Jamie is portrayed to be ardent in his beliefs about exercising and tells others about his way of life. Thus, evangelical person is said to be a zealous person.

An Evangelist is a bringer of good news, a Church leader or someone who preached the good news of Jesus Christ from place to place. Philip is called "the evangelist" (Acts 21:8). He was the chosen one of the seven. He was a Hellenist, or Greek-speaking Jew, who preached in Samaria. Timothy was encouraged by Paul to do the work of an evangelist. So Evangelical means doing the work of an evangelist, witnessing for Christ.

Evangelical may also means one holding evangelical principles or belonging to an evangelical party or church. Evangelical also means emphasizing salvation by faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ through personal conversion, the authority of Scripture, and the importance of preaching as contrasted with ritual.
