Foe refers to an enemy or a rival. It is generally used to refer to opponents in war. It basically means an adversary, can be used in a personal context as well. The term has seen a lot of poetic usage to denote an enemy.

A foe is also a unit used to measure energy. One foe is the equivalent of ten raised to forty-four joules. It is mainly used to calculate immensely high amounts of energy, such as that energy generated by a supernova. This is a very convenient form of measure as a supernova generally emits around one foe of conservable energy in an extremely short time period.

Foe is also the acronym for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, which is a fraternal association. It is also the abbreviation for Friends of the Earth, which is a network dealing with environmental issues.
